I truly appreciated your short article on Larry Doby. Having lived in Cleveland for about 10 years, I especially liked the comment, "Cleveland and Doby seem like two peas in the same pod--quiet, hardworking, not calling attention to themselves." On the day that Larry Doby was elected to the Hall of Fame I sat down and wrote this song. Enjoy.

Larry Doby Is Finally In Cooperstown
The year was '47, a long time ago it seems
I'm not sure we really know what it means
But I'm sure that you felt the pain
But you also understood the gain

Chorus:

You were not a footnote, you deserved more
You shoulda been in Cooperstown long before
But finally, they righted the wrong
Now you are right where you belong
You joined Feller, and Lou Boudreau
That was quite a team, quite a show
And then together, it seemed like fate
When you won it all in '48

Chorus

They loved you in Cleveland, it was there that they knew
What it was that you went through
You were first in so many ways
But you seemed almost forgotten until today

Chorus

You played center field, batted .283
But you were always second to Jackie
Still you took the insults, you felt the hate
And through it all you just played great

Chorus

Terry Hardy
Arlington, VA

Just a last word on my part re the Comm. of baseball. When was the last time we had a baseball man from the rank and file as Comm? NEVER! If it must be someone who never played the game, how about Bob Costas?
