Thanks to everyone for their kind words about my Grandfather, Howard Derr. He will be missed. --Peter

That was a sensational tribute to your grandfather. You mentioned that you weren't good at that kind of thing, but you are. I hope you cherish your memories.

Rob Elias

Thank you for the writing about your grandfather. We all have relationships like that be it a grandfather, uncle or dad. I had a grandpa who was the second longest bar keeper in WI when he retired in the mid-70's but I remember him for being the business manager for a small town team, Loyal. With his passing and my grandma's moving to a nursing home in the last few years, I regret that I had aunts who went in the house and took everything to sell it. What old baseball stuff did he have? I would have loved to see that since he never shared those stories. So, your story in a way let me share those type of stories. Thank you!

DDD

The Peter Schilling piece on his grandfather is a gem. Beautiful writing. Looking back like that on the life of a friend or loved one can sometimes turn maudlin or cliched. Not this story. Every word rings true.

Jay Berman

What a wonderful article on your grandfather. A very fitting tribute! Reminds me of my father and the old Louisville Colonels. It was the late 50's an I remember going with Dad like it was yesterday. Good job. Love your publication.

Jon Borie

Justin,

Your article was right on about Steve Stone. Anybody who listened to him on TV knew they were experiencing the Golden Age of Cubs, and perhaps baseball, broadcasting.
